Born and raised in Birmingham.
After leaving school I got involved in retail and spent more than 15 years in this sector. This enabled me to gain firsthand knowledge in business negotiation skills. I also volunteered in my local Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) for more than 10 years in Birmingham and I am a member of the Council of Sikh Gurdwara’s in Birmingham. Having managed retail shops in Birmingham, a new challenge faced me in 2002. A family decision to purchase a business in Plymouth.
A new beginning, a fresh challenge but one that would begin my passion for Plymouth. It was to become the stepping stone of my community, business and managerial skills being used to the best of my ability. Having ran the store for more than 5 years in Plymouth simultaneously with my community voluntary engagement work in Plymouth the business was sold in 2007.
My community work briefly consisted of engaging, volunteering and delivering work related to Equality & Diversity, community cohesion, race identity and cultural programmes to educational establishments, statutory and multi faith agencies nationally and regionally.
Easily recognized and approachable are two important qualities I possess.
The database of people that I have amassed in Plymouth has proved invaluable to me.
My role as a Funding & Training Officer with Fata He is to work with the diverse communities in Plymouth, Cornwall and Torbay.
I am interested in photography, theatre and the arts. I use the arts as a medium to implement change, challenge and champion perceptions of BME people in Plymouth. Below are some of the accomplishments I have achieved
